A Trusted Supply Partner for Victoria’s Renewable Energy Future

Carwarp Solar Farm — Construction of a 171MW
Solar & Hybrid Battery Farm

Yellow Hire - Carwarp Project

Client: Gransolar Group
Project: Carwap Solar Farm
Location: Mildura, Victoria
Duration: 2 years
Project Value: $233M

The Carwarp Solar Farm is a landmark renewable energy development delivering dispatchable, on-demand power to Victoria’s distribution network. Located near Mildura on a site with existing solar approvals, the project represents a significant step forward in large-scale, reliable renewable infrastructure.

Delivering 171MW of solar and hybrid battery capacity, the Carwarp facility required the full construction of complex site infrastructure including earthworks, access roads, drainage and the installation of solar and battery storage systems across a large footprint in Victoria’s north-west.

At $233M, this was a landmark project for the region and one where construction timelines, equipment availability and on-the-ground responsiveness were critical to programme delivery. AIH’s Yellow Hire division was engaged to support the project with a coordinated fleet of earthmoving and support equipment across multiple stages of construction

The Challenge

Gransolar Group, the international EPC contractor engaged to deliver the Carwarp project — required a reliable local equipment hire partner with the depth and flexibility to support a broad range of plant requirements across a full construction programme. Their principal civil contractor, CTC, identified Yellow Hire as the right supply partner early in the project.

Together, the site teams required:

  • Sustained full fleet supply across every stage of the every stage of a $233M landmark renewable energy project, from initial earthworks through to final construction activity
  • Stepped up when the programme required it – sourcing outside standard stock and coordinating delivery to site to keep construction moving
  • Delivered a broad, coordinated fleet across the full two-year duration; excavators, graders, rollers, water trucks, posi tracks, tippers and loaders, without gaps in availability
  • Successfully commissed GPS-guided grader capability on site, solving a technically challenge that fell outside standard hire configurations ensuring the earthworks programme could proceed without delay.
  • Maintained a responsive, dependable service throughout- recognised by Gransolar as a trusted partner on one of Victoria’s most significant renewable energy developments
  • Built a supply relationship that began with a single machine and grew to cover the majority of the site’s equipment needs — earning a direct partnership with Gransolar Group alongside the principal civil contractor CTC
  • Left a strong enough impression that the project team sought to continue the relationship beyond Carwarp, with Yellow Hire invited to support future project activity.

The GPS grader requirement presented an early technical challenge — it fell outside Yellow Hire’s standard configuration at the time. Rather than step back from the work, Yellow Hire engaged specialist GPS contractors, worked through the commissioning process on site and ensured the grader was fully operational for the project’s earthworks programme.

The AIH Approach

Our Yellow Hire division was introduced to the Carwarp project through CTC, Gransolar’s principal civil contractor, and went on to build a direct supply relationship with the Gransolar site team as the project progressed. From the outset, Yellow Hire operated as a genuine project partner, not simply an equipment supplier.

Throughout the two-year programme, the Yellow Hire team maintained close communication with site supervisors, responded to shifting equipment priorities with a minimum of lead time, and consistently found solutions when requirements changed. Where site demands fell outside standard fleet configuration, Yellow Hire sourced the right equipment and worked through the technical setup on site to get it performing.

Equipment supplied across the programme included:

  • Grader (GPS-guided for precision earthworks)
  • Water trucks
  • Posi tracks (skid steer loaders)
  • Excavators
  • Rollers
  • Tippers
  • Loaders

Approximately 95% of the equipment operating on site throughout the project was supplied by Yellow Hire — a reflection of both fleet depth and the confidence the Gransolar and CTC teams placed in the AIH supply relationship.

No Gaps. No Delays. Logistics That Keep Pace

Throughout the Carwarp programme, Yellow Hire consistently mobilised equipment within 24 hours of a confirmed request — and in many cases, delivered to site the same day.

With the project running to a tight construction schedule, Yellow Hire worked closely with the site team to coordinate freight and ensure equipment arrived when it was needed. By maintaining strong relationships with trusted transport partners, Yellow Hire was able to organise logistics quickly and keep mobilisation timelines on track across the full two years of construction.

That reliability and willingness to move at pace, regardless of the lead time, was a key part of how the relationship with the Gransolar and CTC teams developed over the life of the project.

What Our Client Said

“Yellow Hire provided reliable, well-maintained equipment throughout the Carwarp Solar Farm project, supporting the construction of RayGen’s 171MW solar and hybrid battery facility near Mildura. Their fleet of excavators, posi tracks, water trucks, tippers, rollers and loaders was well suited to the site’s complex conditions, and their service was responsive and dependable across the two-year project duration. We value Yellow Hire as a trusted partner on this landmark renewable energy development.”

Project Outcome

Yellow Hire’s engagement on the Carwarp project grew from an initial equipment request into a sustained, two-year supply relationship that expanded well beyond its starting point. What began as a single grader hire developed into a broad, ongoing partnership covering multiple equipment categories and supporting the project through to completion.

The quality of service and reliability of supply delivered throughout the programme left a strong impression with the project team. Following the conclusion of works at Carwarp, theyexpressed interest in continuing the relationship and involving Yellow Hire in future project activity, including upcoming works in regional NSW.
